What happened in the third (last) month of the University of Waterloo Neighborhood Cooking Project? πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³

In the third month of this project, neighbors cooked "Chicken tahchin (Persian saffron rice cake)", "Morasa polo (Persian jeweled rice)", "Fish and vegetable rice pilaf", and " Chighirtma (egg dish from Azerbaijan)". The photo illustrates the dishes (Fish and vegetable rice pilaf) cooked by the neighbors during one of the online cookery sessions. It is sad to say goodbye to all our lovely neighbors. What a wonderful 3-month we spent all together. We started the project with a few challenges in coordinating tasks and we learnt how to overcome those within the project. We are happy that we have been able to bring a few hours of joy and delicious dishes to our neighborhood. We thank all the volunteers, neighbors and our community partners that made this event possible by their generous contributions and efforts 🌹🌟

We hope we will be able to start a new project with our neighbors, volunteers, and community partners soon.

We are busy with shopping and distributing food items to the neighbors of UWaterloo. We have cooked "Chicken Biryani" and "Chicken stew with potato" together during the first two weeks of February. Chicken Biryani took plenty of time, but at the end it came out as one of our favorite dishes 🍲.

What happened in the first month of conducting University of Waterloo Neighborhood Cooking Project ?
In the first online meeting of this project, neighbors got to know each other and decided on the list of the dishes according to their preferences and as a result some vegetarian foods were added to the list. With the help of some volunteers from The Canadian Helpers Society, the neighbors distributed the tasks and collaborated well to coordinate the tasks by taking into consideration the risks caused by the ongoing pandemic. Food items have been bought, transported, disinfected, and distributed to neighbors especially those in need.

1 Annoucement Post NFM

University of Waterloo Neighborhood Cooking Project started on Jan 1, 2021 and is going to end within 3 months. The project is an attempt to bridge the social gap that has been created by the ongoing pandemic between the neighbors of University of Waterloo. It does so by teaching the dishes from different cultures step by step to the neighbors while giving the neighbors the opportunity to share valuable information about each other’s culture. At this time when we have to try our best to stay at home longer, it is a golden opportunity to get to know new cultures and new people from the neighborhood. The project would be conducted using internet, social media platforms and telecommunication applications from everyone’s home. The project has been planned to teach 12 dishes in 12 online sessions to at least 10 neighbors. Most of the neighbors take the lead of supplying ingredients, distributing them, and coordinating tasks and meetings.
